With the Amorton, Panasonic offers an integrable solar cell based on amorphous silicon. This enables customized PV applications: the solar cells can be easily produced in any desired shape. The amorphous silicon cells can be applied to various substrates, commonly glass and plastic film.

The Amorton family is characterized by its sensitivity to primarily visible light, even at extremely low light intensities starting at 50 lux. This also explains its primary application area, which is indoors. Wearables require both indoor and outdoor use, and a hybrid variant is optimal for this, as it also generates energy at higher light intensities.

There are three basic technologies:

  • indoor glass substrate 1.1mm thick and 0.63V per cell
  • hybrid (indoor + outdoor) glass substrate 1.1mm thick and 0.89V per cell
  • outdoor film substrate 0.3mm and 0.82V per cell

The individual cells are connected in series during the production process. This is determined based on the application and optimized for, for example, the voltage of the supercap or lithium battery.

Panasonic Amorton solar cells are ideally suited for powering portable electronics, wireless sensors, IoT devices, or extending the lifespan of battery-powered equipment.
